From fly casting to fly tying, on big valley rivers or small mountain lakes, for surf perch or steelhead, there’s a Countrysport Fly Fishing School designed to make you a more independent and productive fly anglers. Countrysport has been teaching people of all skill levels to fly fish for more than fifteen years, and our curriculum has evolved to streamline the learning curve. You’ll learn more in a weekend than most fly anglers learn in a lifetime. What others take weeks to try to teach, our schools accomplish in days. Fly Fishing for Trout

This three-session class concentrates on fly fishing fundamentals. We will introduce you to equipment, terminology, and crucial fly fishing knots. We will also discuss basic trout behavior, habitat, and food sources. On the river, you will learn fly casting basics, put your new-found skills to the test, and fish for wild rainbow trout.

All necessary tackle will be provided.

Steelhead Fly Tying
This is a must course for all steelheaders. We will teach you how to design and tie Northwest steelhead flies, from heavy winter flies and standard wets to low-water summer patterns. You will keep the flies you tie.

Basic fly tying skills are a pre-requisite.
Materials and equipment will be provided.

Quick-Start Programs
Countrysport’s newest school program is a quick and affordable way to gain exposure to fly fishing. The three disciplines are fly fishing, fly tying, and fly casting.

  • The fly fishing program is a single, four-hour crash-course on a local stream.
  • The fly tying course will get you familiar with materials and techniques in our two-hour workshop.
  • The fly casting course is a two-hour clinic for all levels taught by our certified instructors.

Fly Fishing the Deschutes River
This class is designed to teach skills and techniques necessary to succeed on Oregon’s fabled Deschutes River. Whether it is matching the river’s prolific hatches or effectively nymphing its many riffles, this class will show you where, when, and how to catch fish on the Deschutes.

Fly Fishing Oregon’s Coast
The Oregon coast is virtually untapped by today’s fly angler, yet it is the most prolific fishery in the state. Red-tail surf perch, ling cod, rock bass, and sea-run cutthroat are just a few of the species available to the fly fisher. In this two-part class, we will show you the secrets to this exciting world of salt spray and screaming reels.

Fly Fishing for Steelhead
Learn methods and techniques proven to consistently take steelhead on the fly. Understand how to read and edit the water to maximize your efforts. Spey Casting
Learn the casting techniques that are revolutionizing Northwest steelheading and salmon fishing. Once you master the “Forward Spey,” “Single Spey,” “Double Spey,” “Underhand Cast,” “Snap-T,” and “Snake Roll,” you will be able to consistently cast 75 to 120 feet – all without making a single false cast.
